Direct Path to PR: Canada Launches New Caregiver Pilot Programs
Immigration Minister Marc Miller has introduced revamped caregiver pilot programs that grant home care professionals permanent residency (PR) upon arrival in Canada. These programs aim to ensure that caregivers can continue to come to Canada while providing essential services.
Highlights of the New Caregiver Pilots:
- Immediate Permanent Residency: Home care workers will receive PR status as soon as they arrive in Canada.
- Flexible Employment Options: Caregivers can work with organizations offering temporary or part-time care to semi-independent individuals or those recovering from injuries or illnesses.
- Streamlined Process: This new approach simplifies access to suitable work and a straightforward path to PR status.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Language Skills: Minimum level 4 in English or French (Canadian Language Benchmarks – CLB).
- Education: Must have an education level equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma.
- Recent Work Experience: Relevant and up-to-date.
- Job Offer: Must secure a full-time job offer in home care.

Minister Miller emphasized the importance of these new caregiver pilots, which provide immediate PR status and support the goal of making caregiver programs a permanent fixture.
